Senior citizens encouraged to stand up for their rights

Police host senior citizens awareness campaign in Makause informal settlement.

The Primrose police, together with representatives from several local and government organisations, recently hosted a senior citizens awareness campaign.

The campaign was held at the Fire of God Ministry Church in the Makause informal settlement.

The event was attended by speakers from the Department of Social Development, SAPS, SASSA, Home Affairs, the Department of Health and the Germiston Association for the Aged, who spoke to the elderly about the services each organisation offers.

The executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina was also at the gathering to speak to the residents about problems they are experiencing.

During the campaign Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police, gave those in attendance some vital safety tips and advised the senior citizens to report abuse by their own children.

Maome also encouraged the elderly to report any criminal activities in their area to the police.
