Man assaults, threatens Delport informal settlement residents

Man flies into violent rage after his ex-girlfriend refuses to speak to him.

The Primrose police were recently called to the Delport informal settlement to calm a violent situation.

A 39-year-old man was allegedly the cause of the incident and he was arrested and charged with assault and pointing a firearm.

The complainant alleged that she was walking with a friend when they met the accused, who is her ex-boyfriend.

He demanded to speak to her but she refused.

“He started to assault her and threatened her with a firearm,” said the communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

“Her friend’s boyfriend tried to stop the fight but claims he was also assaulted by the accused.”

Several more residents attempted to stop the assault but the suspect turned on them.

“Officers were called to the scene where they arrested the man,” said Maome.

“It was discovered that the firearm was not real, but rather a pellet gun.”

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where his case was postponed for a bail application.
