Development on the cards for Ekurhuleni

The metro’s plans for infrastructure were launched at the Victoria Hall, at Germiston Lake.

The Metropolitan Spatial Development Framework (MSDF) was launched at the Victoria Hall, at Germiston Lake, last Wednesday.

The launch was a formal introduction of the MSDF and Regional Spatial Development Framework (RSDF) that is currently being used by the metro to guide and influence development in the city.

The framework serves as a plan that directs the long-term projections of the metro which will eventually also guide how the infrastructure planning is done.

The MSDF is also a component of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) that municipalities are required to prepare in order to know what the community’s needs are, among other things.

Town planners from all the customer care areas were among the stakeholders present at the event.

“Through everything that is envisioned we have to consider everyone that will be affected by the MSDF,” said the metro’s planning head of department, Motubatse Motubatse.

“For example, we have to, among other things, consider the pedestrians and ensure that services to be provided should also be closer to public transport.

“We need a well-structured city.”
