Unlicensed firearm taken for ballistics testing

The Katlehong police seized an unlicensed firearm from a 32-year-old man at the Kwesine Hostel.

The Katlehong police recently arrested a 32-year-old man at the Kwesine Hostel in Katlehong.

The man was allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The arrest was made during a police stop-and-search operation.

“Officers received information from a community member who claimed that the man was in possession of the unlicensed firearm,” said Capt Mega Ndobe from the Ekurhuleni West Cluster.

Police went to the hostel and during a search they discovered a pistol, with the serial number filed away, inside the suspect’s room under his bed.

The man was arrested and taken to the Katlehong Police Station.

“The firearm will be taken to ballistics for further investigation and testing to determine whether the weapon was used in other crimes in the area,” Ndobe said.
