Alleged cellphone thieves chased down and caught

The Germiston SAPS arrested four men after they allegedly pretended to be customers in order to steal.

While out patrolling in Germiston Sector One recently, Germiston SAPS officers were approached by a man.

“The complainant told the officers that four men came into his shop and pretended they wanted to buy something,” said Capt George Raphulu, the head of communications for the Germiston SAPS.

“One of the men allegedly grabbed the complainant’s cellphone.

“The suspects then jumped into a silver VW Polo and drove away.”

A lookout for the Polo was broadcast.

Police members managed to spot the vehicle in President Street and gave chase.

“They managed to stop the getaway car and the suspects were searched.

“They were found in possession of the stolen cellphone, which the owner identified.

“The men were arrested and detained at the Germiston Police Station. The getaway car was booked in as it was used in the commission of a crime,” said Capt Raphulu.
