A 42-year-old man was recently arrested in Khumalo Valley by the Katlehong South police, for rape.

It is alleged that the suspect, who stays in an open field in the area, raped an 11-year-old girl on her way home from school.

The child and her mother opened a case of rape with police shortly after the incident.

“The young girl was able to lead detectives to the house where she claimed she’d been raped,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, from the Ekurhuleni West Cluster.

It took police several hours to get the accused out of the house, however, he was arrested and taken to the Katlehong South Police Station.

“While the matter is still under investigation, police have approached the Ekurhuleni municipality in a bid to have the house removed,” said Ndobe.

Police believe the suspect may be linked to other crimes in the area.
