Dinwiddie home burns down

Residents return home to a blazing surprise.

Firefighters from Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) responded promptly to a house fire, on Monday.

DEMS firefighters, responding from the Wadeville Fire Station, were backed up by the Hlahatsi Fire Station.

William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS, said the fire in Bagshot Avenue, Dinwiddie, happened at around 8.30am.

“On the arrival of the firefighters, the six-room house was engulfed in flames,” he said.

“Forced entry through the dining room door was initiated to gain access into the structure.

“The fire was very intense which resulted in the whole house and most of the furniture being destroyed.

“When opening the kitchen door, flashover occurred throughout the whole house.”

Ntladi also said nobody was severely injured.

“The occupants were not present at the time of the fire and they only noticed smoke protruding through the open windows upon their return,” he explained.

“No intense injuries were recorded on scene. One adult female was treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics on scene.

“The scene was declared over at around 9.40am”

The cause of the fire is unknown and still under investigation.
