Warning – Severe thunderstorms, with damaging winds and hail predicted

The weather service has warned of severe thunderstorms in parts of Gauteng this afternoon.

The weather has been anything but predictable lately with a cold front even sweeping through Gauteng less than two weeks ago.

Today the South African Weather Service‘s attention has turned from cold weather to wet weather with a warning of severe thunderstorms being issued.

It is reported that these storms may hit Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, the City of Johannesburg, Mogale and Lesedi today (September 28) in the late afternoon/evening and may bring with them strong damaging winds and hail.

Community members are urged to take the necessary precautions.

When travelling by car in wet weather remember to reduce your speed, keep your lights on and increase and maintain a safe following distance.

Vehicles and animals should also have appropriate shelter during this time.
