K9 Unit finds unlicensed firearm

Members of the Benoni K9 Unit recently arrested a man in Primrose for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

A 40-year-old man was arrested, last Sunday, in Primrose, by officers from the Benoni K9 Unit.

The man was charged with the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The man was spotted behaving suspiciously by officers.

“They stopped him on the corner of Rietfontein and Cemetery roads, in Primrose,” explained communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

He was searched and officers found a black 9mm pistol with 11 rounds of live ammunition.

“The accused was asked for a firearm licence which he was unable to produce,” said Maome.

He was arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station where he was formally charged.

He will appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.
