LGBTI community comes out

A peaceful march was held by the LGBTI community, recently.

The Ekurhuleni Pride event took place from the Vosloorus Stadium, in Boksburg, recently.

Close to 600 members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community took part in the peaceful march in an effort to change the outlook of homophobic individuals and raise awareness about the existence and diversity of the LGBTI community.

Among the guest speakers at the Ekurhuleni Pride event was Mam’ Mally Simelane, mother of the late Eudy Simelane who played for the South African women’s national football team and was an LGBTI-rights activist who was raped and murdered in her hometown of Kwa-Thema.

“I urge parents and the community to accept and learn more about the LGBTI community.

“No form of violence, hate crime, rape or discrimination can make them straight.

“All we need to do is accept and love them as they are,” she said.
