Community patrollers stop assault

After an altercation over money a man become enraged and allegedly beat his girlfriend.

A woman in the Marathon informal settlement was recently assaulted by her boyfriend during an altercation over money.

It is alleged that the 28-year-old man had visited her at work.

While he was there, the woman asked him for her money, but he said he had left it with his sister.

“The victim called her boyfriend’s sister to inquire about the money.

“The sister said she hadn’t received any money from the accused,” said communications officer for the Primrose police, Sgt Styles Maome.

The woman confronted the man and he became enraged and assaulted her.

“He was allegedly kicking and punching her when community patrollers, who were passing nearby, saw what was happening and rushed to help,” said Maome.

Police were called to the scene and a case of domestic violence was opened against the accused.

He was later arrested and will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
