Man allegedly takes victim’s shop equipment to cover debt

A man was arrested for allegedly taking a business owner’s equipment after he failed to pay him.

The Primrose police recently arrested a 38-year-old man for theft.

The arrest was made after the complainant opened a case at the Primrose Police Station.

He told police that he had been out of the country from July 13 to August 8, during which time he left his brother in charge of his shop.

“It is alleged that the accused and his brother threatened the complainant’s brother, chased customers away from the shop and then took equipment and goods from the store.

“They said that they were doing it because the complainant owed them money for rent,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The suspect was traced and arrested.

“We are appealing to the community not to take the law into their own hands;, they must follow the right procedures when dealing with conflicts,” Maome said.

The man has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
