Large EMPD operation cracks down on unroadworthy vehicles

EMPD officers descended on Germiston on the hunt for unroadworthy vehicles, on Tuesday.

Sixty-five EMPD officers descended on the streets of Germiston, on Tuesday, in search of unroadworthy vehicles.

The operation took place between 6am and 2pm.

“Sixty vehicles suspected of being unroadworthy were taken through to the Alrode Testing Station, where 41 of them failed the roadworthy test and three were candidates for impounding,” said Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD.

The 41 vehicles which failed the roadworthy test were issued with discontinued notices, which mean their vehicle licences were confiscated and they have to pass a roadworthy test.

The discontinued vehicles included 12 public passenger vehicles, 25 private vehicles, three small trucks and one tractor.

Three vehicles – two private vehicles and one truck – found to be in a dismal state, were impounded.

The three impounded vehicles were taken to the EMPD Alberton pound and will only be released on payment of towing and storage fees.
