Roseacres oncology unit opens its doors
Hospital hopes new oncology unit will grow from strength to strength, helping those fighting cancer.
The Life Roseacres Hospital was a hub of excitement, last Friday, when it officially opened the doors of its oncology unit.
“This project began over a year ago and it is very pleasing to see the facility finally open,” said oncologist Dr Leiyah Bassa.
“I am so happy that we can say that our facility is set up and we are ready to offer an oncology service.”
The hospital embarked on the project after the need for an oncology unit in Germiston was identified.
“There is definitely a need for such a facility in this area and we hope that it will now be met.
“The East Rand has a large population, with only two other facilities of this type,” Bassa explained.
The unit can accommodate four chemotherapy patients at a time and will have a dedicated chemotherapy sister on hand.
“We hope to grow the facility and in time even offer radiation therapy,” said Bassa.
She also encouraged the hospital’s specialist to get involved with the unit, so that, together, they can offer patients the best care.
Hospital manager Mathews Moavodi officially opened the unit and wished the team all the best.
The event ended with a toast from Sophie Sibisi, the nursing manager of the hospital.
