Police nab man for allegedly robbing teenager

The Germiston SAPS arrested a man on a charge of robbery with a weapon other than a firearm, while his accomplice escaped.

While out doing routine patrols in Lambton Gardens, at 11.20am, last Thursday, members of the Germiston SAPS were told about two suspicious men who were walking up and down the streets of the suburb.

A teenage victim, aged 19, said he was walking along Kock Street when the two men approached him.

“The men allegedly held a knife and a screwdriver to his upper body and robbed him of his belongings which included a Samsung Galaxy cellphone, a black Blackberry Bold cellphone, a Nokia cellphone and R50 in cash,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Ekurhuleni West cluster SAPS.

When the teenager accompanied the police officers back to the scene they managed to apprehend one of the suspects as they fled on foot towards Union Station.

“A 19-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at the Germiston Police Station and charged with robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.

“He was due to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, last Monday,” said Phooko.

The other suspect is still at large.
