Operation nets 14 allegedly drunk drivers

The EMPD Freeway Unit targeted drunken drivers, last weekend.

The EMPD Freeway Unit blitzed the N17 highway eastbound last weekend near the Osborn Road off-ramp in Wadeville, targeting drunken driving.

The operation was conducted on Friday and Saturday between 6pm and midnight.

“The crackdown yielded 14 drivers found to have allegedly taken one glass too many while behind the wheel on a public road,” said Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD.

All 14 of the arrested drivers were men and aged between 23 and 58.

Charges of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor were registered against them at the Elsburg Police Station.

They were expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, on Monday.
