Brig Phumla Mdlankomo, the deputy commander of the Ekurhuleni West SAPS cluster, briefed the women about the purpose of the roadblock.

The women were tasked with stopping and searching vehicles and looking for items such as illegal firearms, drugs, knives and traffic law violations.

“During the roadblock a number of fines were issued for various offences but nothing was confiscated,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“After the roadblock all members travelled in convoy to patrol problematic areas, such as Wadeville and Buhle Park, where hijackings, business robberies and housebreakings have been taking place.”
