While they were on patrol in Wychwood, recently, Primrose police received a call from a concerned resident.
The resident claimed to have seen a suspicious-looking man at a home in Ixia Road.
When the officers arrived at the address given, they found a 23-year-old man standing in front of the home.
“He told police that he worked at the house and, to prove it, began to water the plants on the pavement.
“The complainant disputed this and claimed that the accused had broken into the house’s garage,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
They asked the man to unlock the gate and he became visibly frustrated.
“The home owner, who was asleep inside, was woken by the commotion and came outside to investigate what was happening,” Maome said.
He was able to confirm to the officers on scene that the man did not work for him and that his bicycle, two drilling machines, a car jack and a small compressor had been taken from the garage.
The man was arrested and taken to the Primrose Police Station.
He will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon, on housebreaking and theft charges.
