City manager resigns

Khaya Ngema, Ekurhuleni’s city manager has resigned.

Ekurhuleni’s city manager Khaya Ngema has resigned.

Ngema had served the metro since 2009.

He is currently assisting the metro during this transition period until his last day on August 31.

After serving a full term (2011-2016) and an additional two years, Ngema is set to pursue other professional interests.

“The city manager felt that it was time to move on after spending seven years in a robust environment of municipal governance.

“During this period, he led a team entrusted to turn around and stabilise the municipality,” said Ekurhuleni’s head of communications and brand management, Rego Mavimbela.

“The metro expresses sincere gratitude for Ngema’s dedicated service to the metro and its people, and wishes him well in his future endeavours.”

Mavimbela added that Ngema will be remembered for his leadership that saw, amongst other things, Ekurhuleni turning the tide on wasteful expenditure since 2011.

“The metro reduced wasteful expenditure from R20.8-million in the 2013/14 financial year to R1.8-m in the last financial year.

“Ekurhuleni further reduced its irregular spending from R235-m to R68-m in the last financial year, dropping it by a hefty amount of R187-m,” Mavimbela said.

The metro received clean audits for two consecutive years between 2013 and 2015 under Ngema’s leadership.
