Alleged thief caught hiding in kitchen

The Germiston SAPS arrested a man after he allegedly broke into a local business on Thursday.

While Germiston SAPS members were out patrolling in Spilsbury Street in the Germiston CBD on Thursday, they noticed a business had been broken into.

The police called the emergency numbers of the owner to notify him about the break-in and asked him to come to the scene so that they could investigate further.

The business owner rushed to the scene where the police were waiting for him and opened the premises for the police to conduct a search to check if anyone was still inside.

“While the police were searching the premises, they entered the kitchen and found a 34-year-old man hiding under the kitchen counter,” said Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston SAPS.

“He had a bag in his possession containing alcohol.

“The value of the liquor recovered from the suspect was valued at R2 000 and it was handed back to the owner of the business.”

The man was arrested and detained at the Germiston Police Station while investigations continue.
