Watch: Rain pours down on the N12 – take care out there

Take precautions in the extreme weather conditions.

The South African Weather Service has issued a number of warnings throughout the country today as widespread showers and thundershowers are expected to continue.

Temperatures are also expected to remain in the low teens until Thursday.

Hailstorms were reported in a number of areas in Gauteng yesterday with reports of flooding in and around Durban and heavy snow fall in the Free State and Eastern Cape.

Other warnings included:

Severe thunderstorms with strong winds, hail and heavy downpours are possible from noon to 11pm.

Localised urban flooding is expected with special focus on the City of Tshwane and other low lying areas.

Is expected in various parts of Gauteng throughout the day.

Residents are urged to take precautions when travelling in wet weather by reducing their speed, keeping their lights on and maintaining a safe following distance.

Vehicles and animals should also have appropriate shelter during this time.

East Rand residents have already experienced heavy rain fall and hail on their commute this morning, with misty conditions prevailing.
