Four nabbed for alleged rape, house robbery

The Elsburg SAPS have arrested four men after a woman was raped and her house robbed.

The Elsburg SAPS nabbed four men for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman and robbing her house.

The incident took place on July 7, at 11.10pm, in Calabash Street, Rondebult.

“It is alleged that four men, armed with a toy gun, entered the woman’s house, where they found her and her seven-month-old baby,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“They pointed the gun at them and tied up the woman using shoelaces.

“They then allegedly raped her without using protection.”

After the rape the suspects made off with three cellphones, a belt and a USB card reader.

When the Elsburg police arrived on the scene to open a case docket, the victim was able to describe her attackers to them.

”At about 2.45am on July 8, the officers who had opened the woman’s case were conducting patrols on the R554, when they noticed a suspicious-looking green VW Golf near a petrol station,” Phooko said.

“The police stopped and searched the suspects and the vehicle.

“A toy gun was recovered and the suspects matched the description given by the victim.”

The four men, two aged 19 and the others 27 and 30, were arrested by the officers.

Upon further investigation by the investigating officer, a firearm was recovered on the R103 by the police, with its serial number filed off.

The men were detained at the Germiston Police Station.

The suspects, two Zimbabweans and two South Africans, all reside in Vosloorus.

They are due to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon, to face charges of house robbery, rape and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

All the stolen items were recovered.
