Hope for the hopeless

Alcoholics Anonymous raises the community’s awareness through awareness campaign.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), in Primrose, recently hosted a community awareness rally.

The campaign aimed to raise awareness about addiction and to make the community aware that there is help available for substance abusers.

“We so often have people coming into AA who say that they live right up the road and did not even know there is an AA group in the area,” said the founder of Silkworth Recovery Centre, Kevin Maistry.

The rally travelled through the streets of Primrose.

Police sirens blared to both attract the public’s attention and to ensure the group’s safety, as they spread their message of hope.

The group credited the Primrose Police with assisting in making the campaign a success.

“We want to make special mention of Capt Morné Swart, for being willing to help with the campaign, despite being off duty,” Maistry said.

“This shows that both the AA and the SAPS are working hard to provide help to those who need and want it.”
