Community leads police to suspects

Two men were arrested for housebreaking and a third escaped.

Three men, one with a firearm, stormed a home in Katlehong on Sunday morning, July 10, according to the Katlehong Police.

“The complainant was in the bath when the men forced open the door,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, communications officer for the Katlehong Police.

“A shot was fired during the robbery, however, no one was injured.”

The thieves made off with a TV set, two cellphones, two wedding rings, jewellery and a microwave.

“The total value of the stolen goods is estimated at R30 000,” Ndobe said.

Police were called to the scene, where, with the help of the community, they were able to arrest two of the three men allegedly involved in the robbery.

The men, aged 22 and 25, were charged with housebreaking and theft, as well as attempted murder.

“Officers are still searching for the third suspect,” said Ndobe.

“We thank the community for their assistance in the arrest of the suspects; together we can stop crime.”

The men will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court soon.
