Primrose police inform children about crime

Primrose police and members of the Crime Prevention Youth Desk celebrated Child Protection Week, recently.

Primrose police and members of the Crime Prevention Youth Desk went on a mini-roadshow recently visiting children to talk about issues related to them.

They visited Makause Samaritan Pre-School where they addressed the children about crime and children’s rights.

They also visited Othandweni Pre-School in the Marathon informal settlement and spoke to other children living in the settlement, later in the day.

The roadshow then took to the streets and the police visited parks in the Sunnyridge area, the Stanhope Park and Watsonia Flats.

Children were entertained by an educational drama performed by members of the Primrose Crime Prevention Youth Desk and were given toys and snacks donated by Cartoon Candy, Chubby Chums and the Avril Elizabeth Home.

They were taught how to report various crimes by Sgt Styles Maome, the social crime prevention co-ordinator for the Primrose SAPS.

“For us, Child Protection Week will be every week and we will protect our children 365 days a year,” said the Primrose station commander, Lieut-Col Albertina Vesi.
