New management promises success

Benaud and Wendy Barker were inducted as the new Germiston Rotary president and Rotary Anns president respectively. The induction took place at Germiston Rotary Club’s 88th annual event held at the Germiston Golf Club on Thursday.

Germiston Rotary Club’s annual presidential induction dinner saw guests dressed to the nines.

The 88th annual event was held at the Germiston Golf Club on Thursday.

This year saw Benaud Barker taking over as Germiston Rotary Club’s president and Wendy Barker taking the reins of the Germiston Rotary Anns.

Benaud took to the stand and said, “Rotary is a unique organisation, probably the only organisation with over a million members that changes its entire management structure every year.

“It is a mammoth operation to change the management of an organisation but I think it is the one thing that sets Rotary apart as an organisation and it keeps it fresh.

“It brings fresh ideas, new thinking and energy among other things.”

Benaud said the club had a lot of things to do this year, like the cycle race in November and after they have recovered from that they are going to be dragging the Christmas sleigh around Lambton.

“We have a lot of other things in the pipeline like the family health days.

“I certainly look forward to the year, serving the club, working with the members and being able to sit at the end of the year and say we made a difference,” he said.

Wendy also shared a few words.

“I believe that in every one of the Anns is the heart of Mother Theresa,” she said.

“A heart that is filled with love and compassion for those less fortunate than themselves.

“The time, effort and dedication that they devote to each of our projects is a true reflection of how one can do small things with great love and make a huge difference in the lives of other people.

“I believe that this year we are going to do great things from the small things that we do with love.

“I also believe we will have a very successful year, I know I have the backing of each and every one of you and I am proud to stand here and say that I will serve you for the year that I am the president of the Rotary Anns Club.”

Benaud took over from Le Ramdari, while Wendy took over from Hilary Garland.
