Metro spends R12.7-m on Palm Ridge taxi rank

Commuters in Palm Ridge now have a modern taxi rank.

Ekurhuleni’s MMC for roads and transport, Clr Petrus Mhlari, officially opened the new R12.7-million taxi rank in Palm Ridge, on Friday.

The facility is part of the metro’s vision of modernising the townships by investing in and growing infrastructure resources, which will directly improve the lives of residents.

Palm Ridge resident Sarafina Maseko uses public transport from the township to Germiston on a daily basis and was extremely excited about the opening of the taxi rank.

“This is a dream come true; waiting for taxis in the open veld was the worst experience, especially in summer when it rains,” she said.

“The heavy rains and muddy surfaces made it hard to enjoy travelling on public transport.

“Now I’m glad we have a well-paved taxi rank and loading bays with shelter.”
