Dressed to impress

Primrose Primary School children received new school uniforms.

Primrose Primary School welcomed a donation from AYO and Associates on June 8.

The seven pupils, from the local school, each received a school uniform from the NGO.

“This is my second project as I also dressed 10 children earlier this year at Umlazi Primary School, in Durban,” said the founder of AYO and Associates, Ayanda Mtshali.

“I registered AYO and Associates two years ago and the focus for now is on donating school uniforms.

“I am starting small as I am currently the only one running the NGO but my goal is to be able to also donate food and sanitary pads.”

Mtshali’s life experience is the reason and driving force behind the initiative.

“I grew up in poverty and it is something that I don’t wish upon anybody else,” explained Mtshali.

“I was raised by my single mother, Nonhlanhla Ndlovu, who worked very hard to provide for me and it is because of her efforts that I made it out of poverty.

“I see a lot of children out in the streets walking barefoot without a proper uniform and it breaks my heart.

“I now have a job, a car and I am surviving but there are others who are still suffering which is why I started this NGO.”

Mtshali also said that her mother helped in the selection of the local school.

“My mother lives in Primrose and when I told her that I want to start with my second project she suggested that it be Primrose Primary School,” she said.

“She also told me that some of the children, from the school, live in Makause informal settlement.

“I am very happy to make a positive difference in the children’s lives, the power of giving is amazing.

“There are a lot of people who need your help, so if you are able to lend a helping hand, why not?

“I want to keep contact with the children just to find out and see how they are progressing in life.”

The local school’s librarian, Makhosazana Majozi, was pleased.

“May God bless those who donated, it is in giving that you receive, we really need more of this,” she said.

“Thank you to ST Nubian, the company that made this donation possible,” said Mtshali.

The children received jerseys, shoes, shirts and tracksuits, among other items.
