Motorists made aware of smash-and-grab hotspots

Smash-and-grab hotspots were brought into the spotlight recently by police and CPF members.

The Germiston SAPS and Germiston CPF recently held a joint operation to address smash-and-grabs at two hotspot areas.

They targeted the corner of Jack and Refinery roads, as well as Lower Boksburg Road, next to the Germiston Extension Five informal settlement.

The operation ran between 4pm and 6pm and saw police and CPF members handing out pamphlets to motorists, warning them about smash-and-grabs and urging female drivers to put their personal belongings in the boots of their vehicles.

Brig Phumla Mdlankomo, the deputy commander of the Ekurhuleni West SAPS Cluster, and Col Recson Shiburi, the acting Germiston SAPS station commander, visited the members at the hotspots and thanked them for their efforts.

“Commuters also welcomed the initiative and were hooting while driving past the police officers and CPF members,” said WO André de Jager, spokesman for the Germiston SAPS.
