Taxi drivers in shoot-out

Two men, allegedly from rival taxi associations, where arrested for attempted murder following a shootout.

Two men, aged 53 and 55 respectively, were recently arrested by the Katlehong police for attempted murder.

The pair, allegedly from two rival taxi associations, were fighting for the route to and from Kliprivier when the incident occurred.

“The argument became heated and they began to shoot at each other,” said Capt Mega Ndobe, communications official for the Katlehong SAPS.

During the altercation two bystanders were shot, one in the upper body and the other in the leg, and they were taken by ambulance to hospital.

The two men were arrested.

The men will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder soon.

“Police continue to investigate the incident and we expect more arrests to be made in this matter,” said Ndobe.
