The GCN met Wiandri van Vuuren (16) from Primrose East when she was a finalist in the Lady Gracious SA 2015 competition.
Though Wiandri didn’t walk away with the grand prize, she did win Miss Personality, Miss Style and Miss Photogenic.
“With each title we give the winner six months to host two events to raise funds for a charity of their choice,” explained Lady Gracious SA organiser Suret Ströh.
This meant that Wiandri would have to host six events from January to June this year.
She had a lot of ideas heading into the challenge and began researching various charities and causes.
However, it was a cause close to home that touched her heart and she began to arrange a morning charity concert with a performance by local singer Kevin Leo, for Saturday, May 21.
The concert will start at 10am at Hoërskool Goudrif in Kraft Road.
All proceeds will be then be donated to the Olivier family.
“The whole family suffers from cystic fibrosis,” said Wiandri.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys, and intestine.
The intimate morning concert, which has taken three painstaking months to plan, only has 200 tickets available and will include cake and tea.
