Five men arrested for copper cable possession

A tip-off led to the arrest of five men found in the possession of allegedly stolen copper cables.

The Ekurhuleni West cluster stations task team recently arrested five men, charged with the possession of copper cable.

The men, aged between 23 and 36 years old, were arrested after the task team received a tip-off from a community member.

These five men were arrested by the Primrose police for the possession of copper cable.

“The task team were told the men had hidden a large amount of copper cable in a shack in the Makause informal settlement,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

When officers arrived at the shack they found the five men busy working with the copper cables.

Seeing police, the men ran away in different directions but were quickly cornered.

“They were all arrested and detained at the Primrose Police Station,” said Maome.

Police confiscated R44 300 worth of copper cable.

The acting Primrose SAPS station commander, Lieut-Col Solly Maswanganyi, thanked the community member who supplied officers with the information.

“This is an indication that our community is tired of crime and willing to work with police,” he said.

The suspects appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where their case was postponed for a bail application.
