Many Germiston residents were left in the dark, on Tuesday, after yet another power outage in the city.
The power outage lasted the entire day and caused problems for businesses and residents again.
The previous Friday, the metro installed a new circuit breaker at the Germiston North Substation, as well as giving residents assurance that substations where there was a high incidence of cable theft and vandalism would be allocated security officers.
None of the measures have appeared to help as residents were once again left powerless.
The GCN contacted the metro numerous times, on Tuesday, to request comment on the matter but none was forthcoming.
After appealing to residents to let the GCN know on Facebook which areas were out, many came forward and voiced their concerns and frustrations about the power problems.
Some of the comments received were:
- Riana De Jesus: Elspark has had no power since 11.30pm last night, still no power. Cable theft. Jet Park also no power just after 9am this morning, don’t know what’s going on.
- Anita Sloane: When I phoned at 9.30am this morning to report Tedstoneville Extension One. They were not aware — so got no answer as to what the problem is this time.
- Nadine Osner Garcia: Wilbart is still also without power. We are a manufacturing suburb (only companies here) and our ability to produce products on time is becoming near impossible with the weekly power failures. It is severely affecting the way we operate and our turnover.
- Bobby Hutton: It has become an absolute joke with the “powers” that be…no idea what they are doing, or supposed to be doing.
- Driesnicks Angel Vd Linde: Die mense wat cables steel, daar moet iets gedoen word omtrent dit want rarig waar hulle het geen gevoel nie. Wat word van die vleis en goed in die yskaste ens…really.
- Johanna Kruger: Our power in Tedstoneville Extension One is out at least twice a week for hours on end….. and now again today as well.
- Joey Duvenage: Elke keer as die krag afgaan gaan my kleinkind se visse dood. Mens kan nie aanhou koop nie moeg vir dit.
- Valarie Wilken Green: This is unacceptable! Power off the whole of last week Friday to repair the power issues once and for all. Now we’re without power once again, the whole day.
