Beware of online scams

Resident warns other online buyers and sellers to beware of online scammers.

A Germiston resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, wants to warn others of the dangers of buying and selling goods online.

This comes after her and her son were scammed on a popular online shopping site.

“My son advertised his PSP and several games on the site and he was contacted by a man interested in buying the goods,” she explained.

“The buyer claimed he had paid the money for the items into my son’s account via EFT and even sent proof of payment and a copy of his ID book.

“Not suspecting any foul play we then gave the man our address so that he could come and collect the goods which he did.”

A short time after the PSP and games were collected, the mother and son discovered that no money had been paid.

The resident is now concerned as the alleged scammer has her address and her son’s banking details.

She plans to open a case with the police, and urges all online shoppers to be careful when online.
