No end in sight to five year problem

An Elspark resident wants the metro to do its job properly and deliver service.

For the past five years Claire Costen has been in a constant battle with the metro.

The problem is a leaking storm-water pipe under her driveway which causes absolute havoc on the surface.

Costen, a Falcon Street, Elspark resident, contacted the GCN after her latest attempt to get the metro to fix the problem failed.

“Every time it rains, the water flows down the storm-water drains as it should,” she said.

“However, instead of flowing down the pipe and away it shoots up under my driveway and lifts the bricks.

“I constantly have to chase after my bricks as they float away down the street.”

Costen said that the metro has come out a few times and just thrown concrete slabs into the problem area but this is only a temporary solution as the slabs break and the water still gets through.

“We have dug down to the pipe and found out what the problem is,” Costen said.

“The connecting collar on the pipe is broken and needs to be replaced.”

Costen added that she had told the metro about this but her explanations have fallen on deaf ears.

It is a battle for her family to get in and out of the driveway and Costen wants the municipality to fix the problem properly.

The GCN requested comment from the metro on the matter but at the time of going to press no comment had been received.
