EMPD arrest more speeding drivers on the N3 highway

Professional snooker player one of six nabbed for speeding.

Six speedsters were nabbed last Sunday morning, between 5.30am and 11am, on the N3 highway southbound, between the Rand Airport Road exit and the Geldenhuys Interchange, by the EMPD High Speed Unit.

All six arrested drivers clocked speeds of well over the 120km/h limit on this stretch of the highway.

A 26-year-old professional snooker player, who claimed that he was on his way to the Glen for a competition, was nabbed at 6.55am, travelling at 163km/h in a white Hyundai i20.

At 6.50am, a 25-year-old in a silver Ford, clocked at 175km/h, advanced the reason that he was returning from an all-night gig and was rushing home to take a nap.

The rest of the arrested drivers were clocked at speeds of 176, 174, 171 and 163km/h.

Charges of reckless and negligent driving were laid against the six drivers at the Germiston Police Station and they were expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court on April 18.

They were all released after posting bail of R1 500 each.
