Help the children this Mandela Day

Nelson Mandela’s legacy is important to this country.

“Tata” was the father of our nation and his appeals for help for the vulnerable and disadvantaged were heard worldwide.

His 67 Minutes, where people help a charity, has become part of the very fibre of our new South Africa.

With this in mind, Epworth Children’s Village (which caters for children from across Gauteng) is appealing to local businesses and community members to heed their call and support the organisation’s “Call to Action for Mandela Day 2016” campaign.

The campaign goes out as a challenge to individuals, companies and schools to make a difference in the lives of the Epworth children by donating a minimum of R67 for their 67 Minutes for Mandela Day.

“Make us your Mandela Day project and encourage your employees to raise R67 each and then challenge your company to match the employee contributions.

“Ask your class to raise R67 and challenge all the other classes in your school to do the same,” said Roberta Ingrato, the public relations and human resources manager at Epworth Children’s Village.

If you are an individual, a minimum of R67 is very possible, as you can save about R23 for three months or collect your R1 coins for 67 days.

If you are a corporate you can challenge all your employees, suppliers and competitors to contribute R67 each and match the contribution, or donate a minimum amount of R670 or R6 700 or R67 000 (whatever amount the company can afford).

“We are BBEE compliant and can issue Section 18A certificates for tax should you require one,” Roberta said.

To celebrate the culmination of the campaign a special open day, between 9am and 3pm, will be held at Epworth Children’s Village on Mandela Day (July 18).

Here you can personally hand over your contribution, have your photograph taken and be issued with a certificate of appreciation and a receipt.

You will also be able to see what a worthy cause your donation is going to.

• The registration form and your commitment to the challenge form will be emailed to you.

• Enter.
• Click on the PayPal icon to make an online payment.

Businesses or individuals who would like to work at the home on Mandela Day can email Roberta at roberta@epworthvillage.org.za and a task will be allocated to you.
