A Marlands woman was forced to hide in her bathroom when her home was broken into, recently.
The victim was in the bath when she heard one of her windows being broken; she stayed hidden in the bathroom and called her husband.
âHer husband called the local neighbourhood watch, who sent members to the scene,â said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
âWhen they arrived they discovered three men in the home; the patrollers were able to apprehended one suspect while the other two managed to escape.â
The 19-year-old was handed over to police when they arrived on scene.
The homeowner stated that a TV, a DVD player and jewellery valued at R20 000 had been taken during the break-in.
âPolice later recovered the TV and DVD player in the houseâs garden and the jewellery in the apprehended suspectâs pockets,â said Maome.
The Primrose SAPS station commander, Lieut-Col Albertina Vesi, thanked everyone who contributed to the arrest.
âThis is an indication that the partnership between police and local community patrols is yielding results,â she said.
âTogether we can make Primrose a safe place to be.â
The man will appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
