EMPD officers have busy Easter

EMPD officers were out-and-about combatting crime over the Easter weekend.

The EMPD were hard at work over the Easter weekend.

Close monitoring of revelers at places of enjoyment helped to curb the normally high incidence of fights and injuries.

“Families and other groups of people who flocked to Germiston Lake were well-behaved and offered no resistance when the closing time of the premises was announced,” said Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD.

Over the weekend, eight accidents in which slight injuries were sustained were recorded by EMPD officers.

There were no fatal accidents in the Germiston, Edenvale and Bedfordview areas.

Two drivers ended up behind bars in Germiston for drinking and driving, and eight more were locked up in Edenvale for the same offence.

Three Nigerian nationals were nabbed in Chapman Road, in Lambton, for possession of cocaine, crystal meth and Kat valued at R20 000.

EMPD officers confiscated 16 Kat, 31 crystal meth and eight cocaine sachets from the men.

In another incident, a suspect was arrested in Germiston on March 25, for possession of a generator that was stolen in Crystal Park, in Benoni.

On March 28, between 6am and 9am, on the N12 highway near the Sam Green bridge, five drivers were arrested for exceeding the speed limit.

A BMW M5 driver clocked at 186km/h and failed to stop. As a result, a high speed chase ensued. The M5 was cornered in Edenvale after running three red lights at a breakneck speed.

The driver, over and above excessive speeding, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, at the Bedfordview Police Station.
