Police nab man after restaurant shooting

A Primrose man has been arrested for shooting two people.

A 24-year-old man was recently arrested in Primrose after a shooting incident in Bedfordview.

WO Mduduzi Nhlabathi, communications officer for the Germiston SAPS cluster, told the GCN that the Bedfordview police heard a loud bang coming from just outside the police station at about 5am.

“They rushed outside and saw a crowd of people gathering near a restaurant opposite the police station.

“The police found two men lying in a pool of blood,” said Nhlabathi.

“Witnesses told them that the two had been shot by a man who had also been in the restaurant.”

The injured were treated on the scene and then taken to hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.

It was further indicated that the assailant had not been provoked, he had heard them talking and laughing and without a word took out his pistol and shot at them.

“The police launched a search for the suspect and, using the registration number of his vehicle, traced him to his home in Primrose.

“They immediately arrested the 24-year-old man,” Nhlabathi said.

When police searched his car they found two unlicensed firearms as well as ammunition. The man has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody pending further investigation.

The Germiston SAPS cluster commander Brig Phumla Mdlankomo has commended the members for their sterling work, especially Const Mulalo Manyatse who, even though he had already gone off duty, went out of his way to ascertain that the address was visited and the man arrested.

The constable received a certificate of excellence from the cluster commander.
