Germiston South-based company Johnson Matthey SA donated 120 pairs of school shoes to the children of Ekurhuleni Primary School, in Dukathole.

“Our plan is to make a difference, no matter how small, we will always try to make a difference.”

These were the words of Ndima Rawana, site services director for Germiston South-based company Johnson Matthey SA.

The company, in partnership with the Germiston police, visited Ekurhuleni Primary School in Dukathole, on Friday, to donate over 100 pairs of school shoes to children in need.

The project began last year, with the company’s employees donating money and the managing director of the company matching the money raised.

In total the company raised R18 000.

“We know we cannot reach everyone in need at once, however, we plan to continue our efforts,” Rawana said.

The chosen students were overwhelmed as Johnson Matthey staff, including Jon Balshaw, the regional human resources director Europe, helped them fit their new school shoes.

Station commander of the Germiston police, Brig Samuel Thambo, thanked the company for allowing them to be involved in the project and encouraged the students to look after their new shoes.

“We want to see the soles of the shoes worn, while the tops remain prefect,” he joked.
