Metro makes a mess

A Morgan Road resident has been left furious after the metro failed to refurbish the pavement outside her home after repairing a water leak.

Morgan Road, Webber resident Linda de Sousa reported a leak on her pavement to the metro six months ago.

When the municipality finally came to repair the leak, she said, workers used a TLB (earthmover) to dig a hole to get to it.

“The hole left a tree on the pavement dangerously unsupported and the pavement in a terrible state,” she said.

“When the metro did come to fill in the hole it was poorly done, leaving the tree still unsupported and leaning and the home’s walls and the road full of mud.”

De Sousa wants the metro to assist in the clean-up and refurbishment of the pavement, as she believes it is their responsibility.

The GCN contacted the metro to establish if the refurbishment of the pavement is their responsibility.

If so, when would this take place and why was the tree not secured during the repair work?

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, commented: “The clean-up and backfilling were done two days after the repair.”

The GCN visited the street to find mud still on the walls and road and the tree still leaning. No further comment was received from the metro.
