Senior residents seek help

The elderly at the Cora Erasmus flats have received no help from the metro after months of complaints concerning a dangerous section in the pavement.

After six months of asking for help from the roads department, nothing has been done to help the elderly residents living at the Cora Erasmus flats, in Primrose.

A section of the pavement in front of the flats was dug up several years ago, to repair an electrical problem with a light pole.

The section has never been cleaned up and the paving bricks have not been replaced.

The existing paving bricks have been removed by various people over the years, leaving a really dangerous area for the elderly people to navigate, and a few of them have taken nasty falls in this section.

The seniors at the Cora Erasmus flats reported the matter on August 11, 2015 to the roads department on August 11, last year and have phoned another seven times since then.

The residents also appealed to Rest-a-While Service Centre for the Elderly to try to help them, and the centre phoned the roads department to request that someone come out to fix the dangerous section, but still, nothing has been done to solve the problem.

The Germiston City News reported the complaint to the metro, but no comment had been received at the time of going to press.
