Get involved in the community

The Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF is urging all residents to get involved in the fight against crime.

The Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF recently held an extremely informative meeting.

The meeting, held at Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston in Lambton, attracted a good crowd who welcomed the Germiston SAPS station commander Brig Samuel Thambo and a strong delegation of police members.

The CPF thanks Thambo and his delegation, as well as the community for attending the meeting.

Thambo spoke to the community members about crime-related issues in the area and what is in place to combat these problems.

He also thanked the patrollers for the work they do and emphasised the importance of the CPF structures and the role that the community has to play in combating crime in the area.

Various combined operations will be taking place in the days to come, such as awareness campaigns and other events. These are aimed at making the public aware of crime-related issues within the area, thus enabling the public to take a stance against crime. This involves becoming more vigilant of and proactive towards putting a dent in the crimes taking place in the area.

“All crime is relevant, but we warn community members that the theft of gate motors is on the increase, not only in our sector but throughout the Ekurhuleni area.

“A syndicate seems to be at work here.

“Please make sure gate motors have locking brackets fitted and that both your gates have extra locking devices (on the front and back of the gates) so that they can’t be lifted,” said Pine Pienaar, vice-chairman of the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF.

“Also make sure electric fences and alarm systems are tested regularly and are in a working condition. Clean outside camera lenses for clear footage if needed.”

There was a good turnout of community members at the meeting.

Pienaar added that in order to invade homes criminals are ringing people’s gate bells and when you go to the gate to enquire, a would-be robber will either threaten you with a firearm or gain access and then threaten to hurt you with a knife or other object.

“We urge residents to take down all the serial numbers of their appliances and keep these handy in the event of a break-in,” Pienaar said.

“Cellphones, tablets and laptops/computers can be loaded with applications to trace and identify the whereabouts of these devices.”

The CPF is also currently in the process of establishing a domestic forum, where the domestic workers within households will be kept informed and educated as to why it is so important to be vigilant and observant at all times.

“Community members are urged to screen workers before allowing them onto their properties for their own safety and peace of mind,” Pienaar said.

The Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF is urging all non-members to join the organisation and to become an integral part of a well-established and well-functioning unit, whether in a crime related or marketing/functions part of the structure.

“Let us all strive to fulfil the dream of a safe neighbourhood,” Pienaar said.

The next public meeting of the Lambton Klip Sector Four CPF takes place on March 10 at Afrikaanse Hoërskool Germiston.
