Don’t let your gun licence expire

The Primrose police are urging firearm owners to renew their licenses at least 90 days before their license expires.

The Primrose police are appealing to firearm owners to be responsible and renew their licenses timeously.

“Section 24 of the Firearms Control Act 2000 states that firearm owners need to renew their licences a minimum of 90 days before their existing licences expire,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“If the owner fails to do this they will be in the possession of an unlicensed firearm, which they will have to surrender to the nearest police station until they have the correct paperwork.”

Maome went on to explain that an owner who fails to hand in their firearm, in the case of their licence expiring, could face criminal charges.
