Firearm recovered, alleged thief nabbed

A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a firearm.

An alleged firearm thief has been arrested by members of the EMPD.

The firearm was stolen from a Zonkezizwe resident in January.

Fortunately, information was received by the EMPD Germiston Crime Prevention Task Team, which led to the arrest of the suspect, as well as the recovery of the stolen Norinco 9mm pistol.

“The officers pounced on the 19-year-old man while he was sleeping in his Zonkezizwe home at 4am, on Wednesday,” said Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago, spokesman for the EMPD.

The man was taken to the Zonkezizwe Police Station and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court soon.
