A fee free year for Laurencia
A young girl has won herself money to pay her school fees for a year in a Shoprite competition.
For Dora Matthews the worry of paying her daughter Laurencia’s (12) school fees for the year is a thing of the past.
Lady Luck smiled on the young Laurencia after she entered and won a competition at Shoprite Golden Walk.
The Laerskool Germiston Primary School Grade Seven pupil was thrilled when she was announced as one of the winners in Shoprite’s competition, where pupils could win school fees free for a year.
All Laurencia had to do was fill in a form and tell Shoprite what she wanted to do in the future.
“I said I wanted to be a teacher, as I want to help children better themselves in school so they can achieve more,” said a shy Laurencia.
The youngster also thought it would be great to win the competition in order to help her mom.
Dora is extremely proud of her daughter and is thrilled with her win.
“I am also very proud of my son, Lourenzo (17), who is a Grade 11 pupil at Germiston High School,” Dora said.
“I have wonderful children.”
Laurencia was presented with the cheque for her school fees, to the value of R5 250, by the manager of Shoprite Golden Walk, Frank Filipe, onTuesday.
Frank told the GCN he was pleased his store was one of those chosen to give the gift of education to a deserving pupil.
