The hot topic of conversation on the Germiston City News Facebook page for the week, January 30 to February 5, was:

Save the Elsburg Dam: https://on.fb.me/1QhgA5q

The beauty that once was at the Elsburg/Weideman Dam is no more. The area is in such a state of neglect that you can no longer even see the water in the dam, let alone the park area. The GCN visited the dam recently to have a look at the current state of affairs at the site.

You said:

  • Sanet Jacobs, “But a few tractors were there cutting grass.”
  • Naomi van der Westhuizen, “I’ve reported the state of the dam I don’t know how many times, nothing was ever done. Yes they did cut the grass, but did not pick up the grass. The mosquitos are so bad in the dam area you can’t even leave your windows open.”
  • Shirean Martin, “Being a Germiston resident and growing up in the area I am so disappointed and disgusted that none of the pavements or council grounds have been cut. Germiston is so very overgrown everywhere you look.”
