Donate towards spaying an animal

The Germiston SPCA needs your donations to sterilise animals.

“The single biggest contributor to animal cruelty is having unsterilised animals,” said Burt Coetzee, manager of the Germiston SPCA.

“One unsterilised female dog and her offspring can bring 67 000 dogs into the world within six years, and one unsterilised female cat and her offspring can bring 370 000 cats into the world within just seven years.

“These are animals that, simply put, do not have a place in society.

“We, as a population, do not have enough people who care enough and are capable enough of caring for all these animals.”

These are the animals that end up being abused, neglected, abandoned, given “free to good homes”, chained and caged up and only experience pain and suffering.

Most of these animals will never experience what love and compassion is – even once in their lives.

These are the animals from only a single dog and a single cat.

“Once again we reiterate that sterilising and preventing breeding is the number one solution to preventing animal cruelty and we need the public to assist us in this task,” said Coetzee.

February 23 is World Spay Day and the Germiston SPCA will be conducting an outreach programme in townships such as Katlehong.

Additional outreaches will also be done in Zonkiziswe and townships surrounding it.

The objective of the outreaches will be to sterilise as many animals in the townships as possible, to prevent breeding.

“We will also be running a dip clinic, where all animals can be dipped for ticks and other external parasites, to prevent disease and related conditions.

“Education will be provided and communities will be shown how to take better care of their animals.

“Food parcels and blankets will also be distributed to those who are in need,” said Coetzee.

The Germiston SPCA appeals to the public for the following:

“This outreach is for the township animals which we are trying to assist and to alleviate the massive population issue and over-breeding of animals.

“For your own animals needing sterilisation, please contact your local veterinarian,” said Coetzee.

All donations will be acknowledged in the Germiston City News.

When making your donation, please give your first name and surname, so that you can be thanked properly in the GCN.
