Police arrest nine for serious crimes

The Germiston SAPS and the EMPD held a successful joint operation.

Nine wanted suspects were nabbed by the police on Thursday.

In a joint operation between members of the Germiston SAPS Detective Unit and the EMPD, the operation concentrated on tracing suspects and following up on information regarding criminals and their criminal activities.

The officers targeted the Dukathole and Germiston Extension Nine areas.

During the operation they arrested nine people, aged between 20 and 33, for various cases, from business robbery to attempted murder and, in the process, recovered five unlicensed firearms and one licensed firearm.

One suspect pointed a firearm at one of the EMPD officers and the officer had to defend himself.

He wounded the suspect, who was later taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Cellphones which were confiscated will be sent for further investigation.

Brig Samuel Thambo, the acting commander of the Germiston SAPS Cluster, congratulated the members for their hard work throughout the night and for gathering the information leading up to the special operation.

The members involved in the operation are:

  • SAPS members:

Maj Jonathan Ngwenya (group commander), WO Noah Mnisi, WO Aaron Simelane, WO Gilbert Magane, Const Almighty Mashigo and Const Senzwesihle Khumalo.

  •  EMPD members:

Supt Deon Singh, officers Kewin Peterson, Floyd Khosa, Florence Yafta, Elias Shabangu, André Human and Manuel Mathyse.
